The author of The Paleo Diet, Dr. Cordain, found that the two communities he studied that were not effected by civilization, and ate a primarily non grain diet, with animal protein, fruits and vegetables and nuts and seeds, had no acne let alone heart disease and diabetes.  So what does this mean since we are a society that eats way too much processed food in the form of sugar and wheat products?

If you have acne, the dietary recommendations I will give are the following: a trial of gluten and casein and sugar free for one month.  Avoid all sodas,  fruit juices, junk food, processed and packaged foods.  Eat more whole foods.

In addition I will test for food intolerances and candida. Uncovering omega 3 fatty acids can also be of use in acne patients. Occasionally I will see women with undiagnosed PCOS and severe acne, which can be responsive to a very safe water pill and androgen blocker called spironolactone.
