Homeopathy And Evidence Based Treatment For The Flu
Homeopathy is a system based on curing like with like using highly diluted substances. The dilution is so high that almost no traces of the medicine or herb is detectable. This makes the remedy very safe (and yet efficacious), especially for children. For example, a common dilution would be to take an amount of medicine the size of a tear drop and dilute it by the volume of the Earth!
Published research in the field of homeopathy includes a Cochrane Review in 2001 and 2 controlled clinical trials done in 1989 and 1998. The remedy studied was Oscillococcinum for influenza. The Cochrane review demonstrated that Oscillococcinum does not prevent influenza but probably shortens the length of illness. It can be taken however, safely on a regular basis during the winter months to prevent the flu. It can also be taken once you have the flu infection to shorten the illness.
The two clinical trials published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology in 1989, and the British Homeopathy Journal in 1998 demonstrated similar findings: patients with influenza who were given Oscillococcinum recovered in greater numbers within 48 hours compared to those given placebo.

These are my recommendations to prevent flu and respiratory illnesses during the winter and flu season:
- Oscillococcinum once daily dosing
- Vitamin-D 1000-2000 iu per day or more
- Vitamin-C 2000-3000 mg per day
If you already have the flu or an upper respiratory infection, increase your dosing of Oscillococcinum; add in Maitake-D Fraction and Transfer Factor; continue with Vitamin-C and vitamin-D; and finally come to the office and get a Vitamin-C Immune drip to help fight the infection.
